Ruby: The Sensory Module in the GEMS Erasmus+ Project
Abstract: This work describes the sensory module developed in the context of the GEMS (Graceful Equalising of Mechatronics Students) ERASMUS+ project. The project aims to encourage students to deal with a real mechatronic platform, while equalizing practical learning opportunities. The GEMS modules have been carefully designed so that students are able to manufacture, assemble, test and modify it while learning about mechatronics. It includes four different parts, being the Ruby one, the sensorial module of the global platform. This module includes two microphones, an ultrasonic module, a ESP32-C3 microcontroller and CAN communication with the rest of the GEMS modules. To assess the project objectives from the design to the electronic board implementation, six students have tackled the task of assembling and testing the module, with satisfactory results.
